ARMSCAN-Active Resource Management is not only a great utility, it is a corporate need.
ARMSCAN is a drive scanning utility specially designed to aid the administrator of a corporate network to practice Active Resource Management. This means keeping on top of file redundancy and duplication.
ARMSCAN can help the administrator achieve redundancy elimination which can relieve gigabytes of valuable prime server space otherwise lost due to lack of sufficient information. With the ARMSCAN results, the administrator can advise the business owners to agree on acceptable archiving goals such as `I agree that everything not used in 2,3,4 years can be archived, but I want to be able to get it back easily if I need to`. A typical example is Armscanning for spreadsheet files which are notorious for breeding uncontrolled across the network.
Unlike other scanning copying software ARMSCAN can archive these files to a new server location and leave a special `shadow` file behind detailing where the file has been archived to and what archive log set it was in. This allows trace-ability of the archive so if the owner of the file returns and finds its gone, they can ask the administrator to restore it using ARMSCAN Restore to its original location.
Duplication is exposed by ARMSCAN in its purpose built tree hierarchy showing the original and duplicates.
Various ARMSCAN reports which are easy to understand can be printed off or exported as required. These can be very helpful to the business owners in understanding the resource management issues that an administrator has on large corporate networks. They have little time to do file management, so its comforting to use a tool which is easy to use and has a clear purpose.
ARMSCAN does not try to be an all things to all people utility. It has a clear purpose and does not confuse the user by bundling a mixed bag of confusing and unnecessary file maintenance offerings. |
